This is a show that COULD be good, but would require a completely different writing staff than what they have. It is for me, after 4 episodes, off my recorder as a total waste of my entertainment time.
I gave this 3 out of 10, purely because the effects and ship footage were surprisingly good. The only reason I tuned in to the pilot was because of t The only reason I tuned in to the pilot was because of the promising footage in the trailer and the premise.
Whether it's the Captain throwing a tantrum and threatening to throw the scientist's samples off the ship, the Captain holding a fuse to kick start the engine or the first officer finding out that his son is dead - and casually announcing it on the bridge like his team just lost a football match.
Let's take time to put on our pristine white uniforms and have a service for our fallen serviceman, despite the fact that billions are dying, we're on an urgent mission, and a nuke just flew over our heads towards England.
Where is the rest of the navy? Where are the fuel and supply ships? Where are the island nations and remote US bases? I'm almost tempted to watch another episode, just to see where this goes.
There are so many moments when you just sit there thinking to yourself "it would be so much better if this happened, or the character reacted this way, or the writers should have done this instead Such a wasted opportunity.
I have to admit, watching first few episodes, i felt the storyline is quite ridiculous. Adam Baldwin is mainly the reason cause i missed seeing him in action since Chuck.
FYI, i think this is my first review ever. I'll judge it by its cover because it's the same regurgitated nonsense that passes as a "hit show" year after year.
Does anybody remember 'Last Resor Does anybody remember 'Last Resort'? Yeah, I didn't think so. Same premise; one naval ship against the world.
I'm willing to bet that within the first season there is a mole on the ship that is secretly working for some government agency foreign or domestic trying to sabotage the crews efforts.
I'm also willing to bet that they come along some unknown island that isn't discovered and magically find out that the inhabitants are immune to the virus.
I'd even go a step further and bet that those inhabitants are part of a larger biological warfare test center and the original country in control of it has it on standby to treat its own citizens.
I give this show 1. Then there's the reviewer that said this will replace SG-1 in our hearts. TLS brings to the s TLS brings to the screen a freshness and energy rarely seen on our screens in the last few years, battling bravely against seemingly endless amounts of 'reality TV'; shows that reflect a desire to drag us all down to the very lowest common denominator when networks should be aspiring to the very highest standards.
The Last Ship does just that with its high production values, quality cast, amazing military authenticity and best of all a fascinating plot. Rhona Mitra shines as the scientist tasked with finding a cure to a weaponised virus that has spread across the globe causing the death of billions; breakdown of authority and the collapse of civilisation.
Adam Baldwin looks to steal the show with his good-natured charm and Eric Dane's calm authority lends to his performance as captain of the USS Nathan James.
I've never read Brinkley's novel of the same; however, the first thing I did post-show was grab it off ITunes and recommend you do the same.
I have just watched the first episode and what a wonderful surprise. This show takes an age old tale and blows it up into a new age whirlwind of a st This show takes an age old tale and blows it up into a new age whirlwind of a story.
The combined dynamic of the crew, the scientists and the outside world threw me into an armchair gripping frenzy that had my hands sore by the time it was all over.
The helicopter and naval effects were not CGI which was a nice touch and gave the whole episode a feeling of authenticity missing in many other shows.
The buildup to the whole premise is clever and believable and the last few seconds of the first episode made me want to jump through the screen and The Last Ship has started off with more twists and turns than most feature films and has proved itself worthy of our attention.
I have enjoyed every moment of the first episode of The Last Ship and have to say it's shaping up to be a great new TV program.
The first episode sta The first episode started of quite interesting and continued at a good speed, I didn't get bored at any part in the episode.
I only hope that this series keeps up with the interesting storyline that started so strong at the start. The acting is strong and the storyline is great, I am a personal fan of these types of programs and we have not seen many as of late.
I recommend anyone who reads this to watch this series and I hope you can enjoy it as much as I am. This is the show right on money , the most promising show of If you are reading other reviews critically evaluating this show then just stop an If you are reading other reviews critically evaluating this show then just stop and watch the Pilot you wont be disappointed.
Rhona mitra is looking hot and glamorous as always rest of the cast is well selected and do not jump around camera for nothing.
Believe it will be a great success Cannot wait to watch further episodes. Fantastic action and lots of plot possibilities I can see this Series going far.
It has the actors and the story to go on forever. The girl scientist has great work ethics and steady direction.
I was in the Navy myself. When that shell casing hit the deck, I was hooked. That's how I would of done it.
I think the Captain looks a little like Leonardo DeCaprio. I like him a lot. They did spend a lot of time on detail to the ship. I worked on 32nd Street back in the '70's.
I'm going to watch this series like a hawk. Can't wait till they try and pull into port somewhere. Crew are staying true to form. When the Captain on Deck, call is made, I still snap to.
It was great to see the snow scenes of the Artic and the scientists working the sites. She reminds me of a Scully from X-Files. I loved her too! Keep up the good work!
Just watched the first 13! Why, why is so hard to many US productions have people to tell em; "well if you a Why, why is so hard to many US productions have people to tell em; "well if you are going to put a Russian helicopter in the show it must look like this models, google for images".
I don't even understand how so ignorant people can reach to make shows Russians flying non Russian Russian helicopters at a ridiculous low high and range just to fire a lot of rockets and ammo just to miss all and get blew up by a light rocket launcher.
Thats just fraking stupid. Things completely different to eurocopter products that even a retard can differentiate just by looking em. I had big expectations about this show, then i saw it Makes the horrible falling skies look good The commanding officer needs a shave, enlisted and officers eat in the same galley, they mis-pronounce "Norfolk" it's Narw-fuk, not Norr-fork , etc, The commanding officer needs a shave, enlisted and officers eat in the same galley, they mis-pronounce "Norfolk" it's Narw-fuk, not Norr-fork , etc, etc.
Did they even have ONE Navy adviser on set? This stuff is so easy to get right nowadays, do we really have to sit through such stupid U.
And all of this was in the first 12 minutes! By the way, the Navy doesn't say "XO is on the bridge". Only the skipper of the vessel is afforded this recognition.
I could say so much more but I will hold back. The only way this show will make it is if it's sold as comedy. Terrible acting, completely cheesy scenes, unbelievable and unrealistic incidents Watches like a 's Godzilla movie.
I especially liked the plug for LGBT in the military Came off like a really obvious, and really bad add placement. Like someone threw it in there as an after thought.
The writing is as amateur as you can get. Determinately watching the next episode. Haven't seen TV this funny in a long time.
Great plot; too bad they ruined it. It's one of those shows that may get pulled mid-season. We can always hope. For this thing to have 7 stars, the cast of Idiocracy bust be the ones watching and rating.
My main reason for watching it in the first place was Mitra and Baldwin and overall I was positively surprised. It's not edgy, extraordinary or comes up with it's own new ideas but it's a very well executed and produced TV show with a cohesive plot and character depiction and some nuances of development.
Baldwin, Dane and Mitra carry this show and they do it well. Some of the scenes can be quite cheesy with all the patriotism and military tradition going on, but overall they found a good balance between the cheesy stuff, action, drama and progress in the story.
Also the quality is very steady, so if you watch the pilot you get the gist of the show. If you looking for some lighter drama and you don't get easily annoyed by a few stereotypes then it's definitely worth checking out.
Watching this first episode, to me it plaid out like a bad made for TV movie that would show on Syfy. The acting was subpar, the special effects were The acting was subpar, the special effects were god awful.
The premise is that a US navy destroyer is at the arctic when a virus is released that infects the rest of the world.
Scientists aboard the destroyer were attempting to find a "Pure" strain of the virus in the arctic at the onset of the virus. This whole premise is pretty silly considering if everyone is infected, so would the destroyer as it loads up to embark on their voyage While in the arctic Thousands of miles away from the nearest airport, short ranged helicopters popping up out of nowhere to fire missiles and machine guns at the scientists and soldiers not harming any of them.
One was destroyed by a surface to air shoulder fired rocket they must have been expecting polar bears to attack using aircraft.
Those clever bears while the other was shot down with machine guns. Meanwhile, attack helicopters attack the destroyer!
They launch several missiles that impact on the destroyer, doing zero damage Not even a scratch! The rest of the show is equally silly.
No damage to the ship. Food and fuel running out They raid a cruise ship they find with everyone dead on board. I guess they must have giant hoses to suck out the fuel.
The rest of the episode is just as silly as the first part. Would I watch another episode? No, there's so much more out there to waste my hour on.
Poorly done piece of "seen it before" that fails to bring anything new or interesting to the table. Would have been better as a TV movie than as a se Would have been better as a TV movie than as a series.
This show is very poorly written with no discernible attempt at realism. The acting is pretty bad though the actors really don't have much to work with.
The dialogue is soap opera melodrama with a touch of gung ho rah rah. The budget was apparently spent entirely on the set with all of the blinking lights and stuff.
This of course left no money for decent effects or even makeup. Their idea of 50 below zero Arctic conditions is to have some weird crystals on the cheeks of the actors that are probably meant to resemble frostbite.
The so-called Russian helicopters that pop up in the middle of the Arctic, far away from any ship or base, are pathetic. The only non-CG helicopter is a plain old civilian helicopter painted black with some dumb looking fibreglass panels stuck on it.
They fire off a crapload of missiles and bullets and manage to hit exactly one person and it's apparently a flesh wound.
Then there are the Russian commandos: They jump out of the chopper when it's 30 or 40 feet in the air and are promptly killed by the brave defenders.
And speaking of the defenders:Staffel an Bord von "The Last Ship": Smartphones, Tablets oder eurem Computer.
